Educational Media EDUtainment

I worked with a group of co-founders to create this start-up, taglined as "SchoolHouse Rock for the 21st Century." We create engaging and national standards-aligned media for STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) classrooms. Material utilizes cognitive theory, colorful characters, and alignment to the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. I functioned as central curriculum designer, developer, and media personality.

App Design Teachtech

I created a mobile app taglined as "Yelp for EdTech." Teachers can log on and rate/review any educational technology product, from interactive whiteboards to educational games and e-textbooks. The app was created in relation to educational theories of peer, open, and participatory learning. I functioned as sole UX designer, concept developer, and graphic designer.

MOOC/On-line Course Design

ScratchEd

I am currently creating an on-line instructional course for the MIT Media Lab. This course educates teachers on how to use and implement Scratch, a computer programming language learning environment. The desire is that this course will either produce more computer science teachers, or lead more teachers incorporate computer science in their classroom instruction. I serve as lead course designer on this project.

Learning Platform Design

CHRONO

Chrono was designed in response to the burgeoning yet chaotic on-line learning space, particularly with the emergence of MOOC (massive on-line open courses). Chrono provides the learner with an on-line platform to organize courses, reflect on learnings, and share those learnings with others - potentially developing new interests in the process. I worked with a team to design the user interface and was primarily responsible for business development.

App Design

History

Hunters

History Hunters: National Mall is a mobile application for six to eight year old users. It is intended to enhance the experience of visiting the monuments on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It was created in response to the belief that a multifaceted understanding of history is an important component of becoming a responsible citizen, and the recognition that visitors of this age group are currently underserved by existing interpretive services provided at these monuments. I served as user interface designer and graphic artist.

Writing and Graphic Design

Education Week:

EdTech Edition

Working with a group, we created this faux version of Education Week focusing on "Technology and the Voices of School Reform." Isolating actual articles from edweek.org, we responded to each article in personally-written letters to the editor, authored both from our perspective and the perspectives of experts in the field. I functioned as lead graphic designer and writer.
